- As United Airlines goes into bankruptcy, there are a whole lot of major creditors who are going to take it in the shorts. One of the biggest will be the Bank of New York. Interestingly, though, despite BoNY's exposure to about 200 million dollars in unsecured United debt, they never mentioned it in their third-quarter report as a possible major loss. I would think that losses of $200,000,000.00 would constitute a significant risk for a bank that made $802 million in the first three quarters of the year. But maybe that's just because I'm a risk minimizer at heart. (12.16.2002)
