(10.23.2004) Watch "Team America" An extraordinarily rare movie recommendation: "South Park" is usually coarse, but creators Parker and Stone hit the mark with "Team America." Roger Ebert hated it, leftist Salon.com readers were incensed, and Salon's review wasn't glowing. Perhaps those are reasons enough to watch the film. But it might be more appropriate to point out that they nail in a Salon interview the feeling of aggravation with know-it-alls who declare how much they hate America while ignoring how outstanding the economy really is, at least in historical context. It doesn't hurt that they discourage uninformed voting. The highlight of the film is the four-letter-word-laden summary of world affairs. When the very-left The Nation calls a movie "the perfect date flick for a drunken frat boy trying to impress right-wing skank Ann Coulter" when it's filled with so much profanity and sexual innuendo that no hard-right social conservative would ever sit through a viewing, it's probably about right. |
