Supreme Court Puts Fifth Amendment in Headlock, Body-Slams it Against Concrete Floor
The Takings Clause? Now politicians can use it for anything they want. The bar for government appropriation of private property is now so low, they can condemn private property in order to turn it over to other private propertyholders. It's unfortunate but probably necessary that the government sometimes has to take private property to finish things like roads and bridges -- but to take private property because it might be good for economic development? That's nothing better than baldly exploiting political connections for private gain, not to mention taking part in a corrupt and inefficient practice. As someone else put it (rather colorfully): "Washington would have drawn his gun".
