Houston Mayor on Evacuation: "Unacceptable"
They're soliciting comments from evacuees to figure out how to do it better in the future, which is good. What's bad is that news coverage includes gems like "It's obvious there were not enough freeways," when that's not exactly "obvious." Congestion isn't always a result of too few lanes. In fact, building more freeways can make the problem worse: Houston probably needed more people to take the many side roads out of the city, rather than congesting onto a limited number of arterial freeways.
