Would include biometric identifiers, so it would not only be ridiculously expensive, it would be a huge encroachment on civil liberties, too

Rioting Gets Worse in France
754 cars burned in one night. The gangs attack firefighters with stones and even appliances. Anyone who doesn't believe in the fundamental importance of economics should look at the root causes of the violence in France -- it's all about systemic poverty (including high unemployment), reinforced by cultural clashes.

Britain to Back Off Speed Cameras
Widespread use of cameras (and tickets by mail) for speed enforcement has led to huge distrust of the police. Now they're backing down, saying that the cameras won't be used as a revenue tool anymore.
