Some homeschooling parents take the laissez-faire approach so far as to leave the children free to study whatever they want, with no curriculum, no hours, and no comparative performance metrics. Competition makes things better -- so removing all competition from the educational process is likely to produce a less satisfactory result than if classroom competition is left in.
