It appears their previous measures inadequately accounted for purchasing power parity. Even if China's growth has been severely over-reported, the US still needs to get to work at increasing the growth rate. The current wave of huge foreign investments keeping US companies from falling to pieces is an unnerving one -- not because foreign investment isn't welcome, but because it's coming from totalitarian regimes (like China, which won't even let Hong Kong have democracy for at least another decade), and because it signals that some American business leaders have really lost their way.
