Earnings increased even when adjusted for inflation. And we still have a bunch of new things (inventions, websites, and ideas, for starters) today that we didn't have 12 months ago. Speaking of inflation, some analysts think deflation is the real worry right now. But given the massive new government borrowing taking place right now, perhaps the real concern we should have is whether the US dollar will remain strong enough in the long term to preserve our financial strength.
