A big outage started sometime around 20:00 UTC, and lasted past 21:00. Considering the large number of users on Gmail, the crash probably caused a significant amount of lost productivity. A lot of people may have just learned about opportunity costs.

A popular user of Twitter teases another user about his icon, which is colored green as a statement of support for the Iranian protesters. The problem is that, like American flags posted everywhere after 9/11, eventually the phenomenon wears out. Just like the ribbon-pin-for-every-statement fad of the 1990s, coloring one's Twitter or Facebook icon as a statement of political empathy is an act whose impact is already much diluted.
