"As for the well-being of the body, it comes about by the improvement of their ways of living one with another. This is achieved through two things. One of them is the abolition of their wronging one another. This means that every individual among the people is not permitted to act according to his will and up to the limits of his power, but is forced to do what is useful for the whole. The second consists in every individual among the people acquiring moral qualities that are useful for life in society so that the affairs of the city are well ordered. Know that as between these two aims, one is indubitably greater in nobility, namely, the well-being of the soul -- I mean the giving of correct opinions -- while the second aim -- I mean the well-being of the body -- is prior in nature and time."
