The oppressive heat of the last few days has been an annoyance in the Des Moines area, but parts of the Quad Cities are actually running seriously short on water. Illinois and parts of Eastern Iowa are in the middle of a drought that's causing higher demand (for purposes like lawn irrigation) at the same time as the water supply is short. There's really no good reason ever for us to experience water shortages -- if we're reasonable about paying a little more for our water. All water is recycled in one way or another, sooner or later...so ending water shortages is just a matter of charging the full cost of what it takes to recycle the stuff.
