The Governor has seated his Generation Iowa commission, and charged them with coming up with a plan for making Iowa more attractive to younger workers. The key to the whole process will be whether we're serious about creating real wealth -- or if we're just going to be lazy and fall back on the old "creating jobs" nonsense. Job creation too often becomes an excuse for unreasonable subsidies and cronyism -- and too rarely actually makes the state better off, on balance. We have an exceptionally low unemployment rate, so creating new jobs doesn't really make the state better-off.
