The United States of America (4.30.2005)
No, Patrick Henry Did Not Say the US Was a "Christian Nation"
Mixed bag on the claims in an e-mail forward. The United States does not have to be a "Christian" nation in order to be a nation friendly to "Christian" values. It's our openness to freedom of (and from) religion that makes this a place where people are most free to express their Christian (or other) values. That's good. We would be less strong and less free if it were an explicitly religious nation, whether Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, or Wiccan, for that matter.
